Personal Biography: The personality of our firm is best reflected in our former Senior Partner, Dennis Fredrickson. Dennis retired from the partnership in 2007 and is now "of counsel" to the firm. He remains actively involved in various aspects of the firm's operations in his ongoing role of mentor and senior advisor.
This profession is about the law, but more importantly it is about people, communication, and balance. Dennis combines legal experience with practical life experience, from racing motorcycles in Baja to practicing law in Mexico, from volunteering for non-profit organizations to trying cases in courts of civil and administrative law, from raising his own family to starting his own firm. Dennis draws on his life and educational experiences to best serve his clients, his colleagues and his profession.
An AV-rated trial attorney for over forty years, Dennis has practiced in both the public and private sector, trying over 100 jury cases, and countless bench and administrative hearings and trials.
Dennis launched his legal career by accepting a position as a Deputy City Attorney for the City of Santa Monica, California, where he was responsible for prosecuting criminal matters and representing some thirty City and County regulatory agencies. Moving into the private sector, Dennis focused on personal injury, business, and professional liability litigation, with some criminal matters mixed in, including three death penalty cases. His professional liability practice centered on the rights of doctors, nurses, and other healthcare professionals.
In the past 25 years, Dennis has focused on and represented all sides of construction-related claims. He was trial counsel for a client/subcontractor in one of the first multi-party construction defect cases tried in San Diego County. As a direct result of its construction litigation practice, the firm has developed a significant insurance defense practice which is the central core of its business.
Dennis has acted as judge pro tem in civil matters, as well as arbitrator and mediator in private disputes. He has also served the Superior Court as a court settlement officer.
Professional Activities: Dennis holds memberships in a variety of professional organizations, including the San Diego County Bar Association, the San Diego Defense Lawyers Association, the Defense Research Institute, and the American Trial Lawyers Association, Litigation Section. He is admitted to practice before all State Courts in California, as well as the United States District Court, Southern and Central Districts of California.
On A Personal Note: Dennis is strongly committed to pro bono work, and both he and the firm are involved in assisting a number of non-profit organizations. He is a founding member of Therapeutic Living Centers for the Blind (TLC), a non-profit facility which provides lifetime care for the multi-handicapped blind, and also sits on its Board, as well as the TLC Foundation. He has also been involved with an Alzheimer's care center, a non-profit organization that provides adult daycare, as well as training for caretakers of Alzheimer's patients.
